Setplot

Getting started

Sharing and editing together

Share a view-only link, invite editors and hand over editing control. Learn what to do if someone disconnects or saves a newer version.

All topics

Create a free account to keep your production and share it. View-only links are free. Inviting people to a production requires a Production Pass or Pro; version history and snapshots require Pro.

Open Export & share and create a share link. Recipients can open the production in their browser without an account to review the sets, lighting, model and available paperwork. They cannot edit through the link.

You can set an expiry date or revoke the link when it is no longer needed.

Invite someone to the production

The owner can invite people by email and choose Editor or Viewer access. Invitees can use a free account. They must sign in with the invited email address and verify it before accepting.

An accepted invitation adds the production to Shared with you on their dashboard. It does not use one of their own production slots. A production credit, such as Lighting Designer, is separate from permission to edit.

Hand editing to another person

One person edits at a time. Other people can follow the changes, look through the model and use the available paperwork.

Choose Request access to ask the current editor to hand over. They can choose Hand over or Not now. Setplot saves their latest changes before passing control; if the save fails, they keep editing control and can try again.

If the editor disconnects, their control is released so another editor can continue. It may take a short time for the disconnection to be recognized.

Take over when the editor does not respond

An editor can choose Take over if the current editor does not respond. The previous editor’s local work stays on their screen, and they can choose Download my copy to keep it.

Check that copy for work you need before closing or reloading the page. Taking over does not combine two people’s unsaved changes.

If someone has saved a newer version while your copy was open, Setplot alerts you and keeps your local work on screen. Review it before reloading the saved production.
